Jamote lets small groups play music together over direct internet connections. This page explains the full flow in simple terms.
1. Sign up
- Go to
www.jamote.se. - Enter your email address.
- Jamote shows a verification code on the page.
- Download the desktop app.
- Open the app and enter the code to sign in.
2. First time setup
- Choose your audio input and output devices.
- Allow microphone access if your system asks.
- Use headphones. Speakers can cause echo and feedback.
- If possible, use wired internet and wired audio gear.
Best results usually need about 10 ms network latency or less between players.
3. Create or join a band
A band is your group. Inside the app, you can create a band or join one with an invite code or invite link.
- Create a band if you are starting a new group.
- Join a band if someone already invited you.
- Band members can see the same band and its jam sessions.
4. Start a jam
When a band member starts a jam, the other members can join it from the app. One player acts as the host for session setup, but audio is not mixed through a central server.
5. How the connection works
Jamote uses peer to peer audio. After the app signs you in and finds your band, it helps the players discover each other and exchange connection details. Then the players send audio directly between their own computers.
- The website and app server are used for signup, band info, and session setup.
- Once the jam is running, the audio path is direct between peers.
- This avoids sending live audio through a central audio server.
- Shorter and cleaner network paths usually give better timing.
6. What you should expect
- If latency is low enough, playing can feel natural.
- If latency is too high, timing becomes difficult.
- Distance matters, but actual network routing matters too.
- Home Wi-Fi, Bluetooth audio, and busy networks can make things worse.
7. Troubleshooting basics
- No sound: check the selected input and output devices in the app.
- Echo or ringing: use headphones, not speakers.
- Dropouts: try wired internet, close other heavy network apps, and reduce system load.
- High delay: test with players who are geographically and network wise closer.

Jamote is still in early access. Some parts may change, and some setups will work better than others.
